World Cup could be Held in Qatar in 2022

Qatar : 19 April 2010

Qatar plans to bid to stage the World Cup in 2022 and many are excited at this project and feel it could show the Middle Eastern region in a whole new light. While it will be up against strong opponents such as the United States and Australia many feel that the time is now coming for the region to hold just such an event.

Qatar officials are saying that FIFA are interested in holding the event in new locations as was shown by South Africa been given the opportunity to host the 2010 event. It is Qatar’s prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamed bin Khalifa Al Thani who is behind the current bid to host the 2022 event and he firmly believes that there are many very good arguments being presented for the Middle East to be given the opportunity to stage the event. He believes that if FIFA award the event to the region it will be a massive step forward for the sport. At present the Middle East is an untapped market for soccer even though it is a very popular sport in the region at present.

Many feel hosting the event here could have a unifying effect on the whole region and it could only be a positive step forward for all concerned.
