Etisalat and du of the UAE verified that their Blackberry customers will be offered replacement services in response to the recent ban
Two large UAE telcos have verified their intended compliance with the decision of the TRA that will result in the suspension of some Blackberry services beginning October 11, 2010.
Etisalat and du will offer alternative services to their clients using Blackberries for email and instant messaging, web browsing and social networking, according to separate statements issued by each company.
Etisalat’s statement supported the TRA’s ban, commenting that it was an important decision with understandable legal considerations and social consequences.
That company is set to focus on the continuous mobile services of their esteemed customers, readying themselves to announce a selection of alternates for the Blackberry mobile products and services currently in use.
Du has stated that although their customers cannot use the Blackberry services, they will still be able to use their Blackberry mobile devices for voice, MMS, browsing and SMS. Also, du added that any applications not using the Blackberry services will continue unchanged.
The statement released by du confirmed their support of the TRA’s decision and committed to compliance as a licensed telecom.
It also stated that du is committed to their customers and will provide all of du’s numerous Blackberry users with other options for services that present a minimum of disruption.
Their statement promised that a full plan will soon be announced and all of their clients will be kept informed as the plan is implemented.Andrew Reid, Staff Writer, Gulf Jobs Market News
