UAE Set to Become Major Tourist Industry

UAE : 24 March 2010

A new report has just predicted that the UAE will become a top Tourist destination over the next ten years and that it will lead the world in becoming a top employer creating a large number of new jobs in this sector. Over the next decade it is forecasted that Tourism figures could rise by at least 5.5% per annum.

It is also estimated that the UAE’s Gross Domestic Product from the Tourist industry will increase by a staggering 8.1% per annum over the next ten years and in 2010 alone it is predicted that the UAE will rake in over $22 billion in tourist revenue.

According to the 2009 World Travel and Tourism Council’s annual report Travel and Tourism is considered to be one of the world’s most important suppliers of employment and revenue and this was very apparent last year when the industry contracted substantially and this led to the loss of more than 5.6 million jobs that were recorded and countless others in other related or co-dependent industries.

Even though conditions for the industry could not have been worse in 2009 the travel and tourism industry still employed over 235 million people around the globe which is a little less than one tenth of all employment in the world.
