Dubai police arrested three men for selling international calling services that use the illegal IP technology.
Police reports say that the three suspects from Hor Al Anz, Bur Dubai and Satwa were found to be selling international calling services utilizing the illegal IP technology. It is alleged that the three men were selling the services from their apartment residences and charging 50 fils per minute of calling.
Deputy Director Lieutenant Colonel Salim Al Rumaithi of the General Department of Criminal Investigation for the Dubai police said last month’s tip-off reported that three suspects were selling illegal international phone calls for cheap.
Major Salah Bu Aseeba, the Director of the Department of Economic Crimes for the Dubai Police noted that this is a serious crime and an investigative team was organized in response to the tip-off.
Three teams were put together on the day the tip was reported, set up to make three raids and arrest each suspect. According to the police, A.B. was apprehended in the Hamdan area, M.A. was arrested in Hor Al Anz and another M.A. was found in Satwa. Through a search of the three apartments numerous mobiles, computer and wireless communication equipment was found.
According to police, each of the three men confessed to the crime of operating illegal VoIP channels and were given over to authorities for criminal procedures to proceed.
These particular crimes are damaging to telecom providers, the nation’s economic status and intellectual copyrights, reported Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri.
