Sex in the City Might be a No-Show in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, UAE : 18 May 2010

Despite the fact that the new Sex and the City movie is part based in Abu Dhabi (well, actually Morocco pretending to be Abu Dhabi) the film itself might not be shown in the Emirate.

Shooting Stars, the representatives working for Warner Bros., distributors of the Sex and the City 2 film, have told reporters that they are still waiting to make a decision on releasing it in Abu Dhabi.

The debate over the film’s release serves to highlight what might be an ongoing problem for Abu Dhabi.  One the one hand the Emirate encourages foreign film producers and companies to set up bases there – and on the other it gets a bit queasy about film scenes that are overtly ‘sexy’ or dialogue which is considered too political.

The original Sex and the City Movie was not shown in Abu Dhabi.  The general release date for the follow-up movie is May 27th 2010.
