Statistics Bureau for the nation states that only 948,000 of the population are Emiratis.
The population in the UAE has swelled by 65 percent during the first six months of 2010 when compared to the first half of 2006, reaching 8.26 million based on official statistics.
Of that amount counted at the close of June only 11.5 percent (or around 948,000) are UAE nationals, according to Bloomberg News quotations of the Statistics Bureau in the UAE.
The population of expats in the UAE climbed 75 percent from the opening six months of 2006 to the close of June 2010, reaching a total of 7.3 million. It was reported that 42 percent of those expats are concentrated in Abu Dhabi.
Back in January of last year, Tanmia (or the National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority) forecasted that the national population would climb from 5.63 million to reach 7.557 million, a jump of 1.9 million based on the official statistics issued back in 2006.
The Statistics Center in Dubai notes on their website that the current population in that emirate is 1.937 million.
