Movenpick to Create Thousands of Jobs in Dubai

Dubai : 21 October 2010

Hotel chain will create 2,000 new jobs in Dubai by opening five resorts in the city center over a 12 month period.

Movenpick Hotels and Resorts (known as MH&R) have put their expansion plan into effect beginning with the thriving Movenpick Hotel at Jumeirah beach.

Throughout 2010 the hotel chain also opened the Ibn Buttuta Gate Hotel found next to the Ibn Battuta Mall.  The Movenpick Hotel Deira is a business resort in the busy commercial district of Deira set to open in 2011 along with the Royal Amwaj Resort and Spa, a luxurious beach resort set in the crescent of the Palm Jumeirah.  The Oceana Hotel and Spa is rumored to be located on the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah with an opening date not yet known.

The general and regional manager of MH&R Dubai, Thomas Tapken stated that although many were laid off, they remained under sponsorship and created a ripe pool of talent within the UAE.

Those who applied for work with the massive hotel chain contained 40 per cent that had been made redundant by past employers.

Director of human resources for MH&R Dubai, Dara Pinke noted that hiring 2,000 staff normally involves reviewing 20,000 CVs, screening 10,000 applicants and conducting second interviews with around 5,000 of those.

Pinke noted that ads for vacancies produce a much larger response since the global financial crisis, sometimes three to four times more.

The hotel firm expects that all 2,000 of those jobs will be filled through job fairs spread across the GCC region, as well as through the traditional recruitment strategies and from the regional supply.

It was reported last year that MH&R was operating 67 hotels with 32 other locations in the process of construction or development.
