Microsoft Launches the Gulf Imagine Cup Competition for Students

UAE : 06 April 2010

It has now been eight years since the Gulf Imagine Cup was first launched. The competition is now well established its core aim is to encourage students to invent new and innovative ways of tackling many important issues under the five main categories   which are software design, mobile development, game design, digital media and IT systems. The students must then come up with new ideas while using these mediums to solve social problems such as poverty, hunger, environmental concerns, disease control or education.

This year the competition is being sponsored by UAE telecoms operator du and the regional finals will take place in May and the overall final is set to take place next July in Poland. The Local Software Economy Lead for Microsoft in the Gulf commented that the Microsoft Imagine Cup can be a real platform for students to take an idea from the design stage and grow it until it becomes an idea that will be used all over the world.

This year for the first time the competition incorporates on-campus training sessions in many of the UAE’s Universities and Hala Badri, EVP, Brand and Communications, du also stated that this competition is crucial as it gives up and coming students the opportunity to use and enhance a critical tool for their future career success. It is now undeniable that technology is the way forward and that the Gulf Imagine Cup is the ideal platform to have your ideas seen and implemented.
