Kaspersky: Dubai is one of Top Destinations of Network Attacks

Dubai : 01 November 2010

Kapersky ranks Dubai within the top eight global centers that suffer from frequent network attacks.

Director for Kapersky Lab’s Hosted and Streaming Technology Research department, Maksym Schipka said that the Middle East hub suffers from frequent network security attacks landing it among the top eight in the world.

Schipka noted that more and more businesses are transferring operations online and Dubai, a major commerce hub for the region, is becoming a magnet for network security dangers.  Schipka spoke about this problem at Gitex 2010.

The data that Kaspersky bases their rankings on was gathered from October 20 to 31 and indicates that a majority (67 percent) of the computer attacks in the area were focused on DDoS.

DDos (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks are intended to disable or block a network’s access to the necessary services online.  Websites focused on E-commerce are the primary target of this type of attack.

Around one third (30 percent) of the attacks are aimed at the exploitation of the vulnerabilities in MS08-067.  The Kido worm issue is the most well known malware aimed at this target.

Moscow, Los Angeles and New York were also included in the top eight locations, rounded out by Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei/Taiwan and Harbin, China’s tenth largest city.
