Virgin Mobile To Expand to the UAE

UAE : 23 November

Virgin Mobile considers the Arab region for service expansions.  Sir Richard Branson, the head of Virgin Mobile, has big plans for the UAE in particular as the next targeted area.

Branson spoke to local media and noted his enthusiasm for the launch of Qtel (Qatar Telecom) which happened this past May, along with further roll outs.

He stated that other areas are being looked at, particularly the UAE.  Branson said the response has been good, allowing the brand to reach more people and that has caused the company to look for further expansion opportunities in the region.

Virgin Mobile has eight branded operations across the globe, with Virgin Mobile Qatar being the latest one.  There have also been launches in the United Kingdom, the U.S., France, India, South Africa and Canada.  Qtel wholly owns Virgin Mobile Qatar.

Branson explained that this practice is how his firm operates, within a straightforward, lower cost structure that all can understand.  He noted that the brand has found success in the Arab world, as radio, retailers and telecoms take off.  The firm is looking into the many options that are available here.

Aabar Investments, a firm backed by the Abu Dhabi government, currently owns 32 percent of Virgin Galactic.

Branson noted that speculations of a space port being built by the firm in the UAE are certainly under consideration but still far into the future.
