It was victory for the French at the Meydan racecourse in Dubai last night when the Pascal Bary- trained horse Gloria De Campeao claimed the richest racing win in the world i.e. $10million.
Gloria De Campeao came second last year behind Lizard’s desire who was trained by Dubai-based South African Mike de Kock.
This six year old horse was hotly tipped as a contender to take the prize but it was also noted that there was some very prestigious competition most notable being American horse Ramon Dominguez and Vision D’Etat another French contender.
However Gloria De Compeao was always seen as a hot contender he is of Brazilian stock, has a French trainer Pascal Bary and is owned by Estrela Energia Stables. Although he came second last year his time was 14 lengths behind the winning horse Well Armed. After that he went on to win the Singapore Cup at Kranji Racecourse in April 2009.
After that he had a lacklustre period before once again impressing at the World Cup preparatory races at the Al Maktoum Challenge round one. He was subsequently second behind Red Desire in Round three before showing his true worth at the Meydan racecourse in Dubai last night.Paul Holdsworth, Staff Writer, Gulf Jobs Market News
