Oman to Provide on-the-job Training to 5,000 nationals

Middle East : 28 August

Muscat Oman’s Ministry of Manpower plans to recruit 5,000 young Omanis for on-the-job training leading to guaranteed employment.

Manpower Minister Shaikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Bakri said on Monday that the government was aggressively moving to secure jobs for nationals who are still without work despite a massive employment drive that led to as many as 74,917 positions being created for Omanis since February.

That campaign followed a wave of protests and sit-ins staged in a number of cities across the sultanate.

In interviews with Oman TV and the Oman News Agency (ONA), Al Bakri also lamented perceived reluctance on the part of locals to take up jobs in the private sector.

While strongly urging Omanis to capitalise on opportunities in the private sector, Al Bakri pledged efforts to ensure that new recruits get satisfactory positions and pay benefits corresponding to their qualifications and skills.

Suitable opportunities

Follow-up teams have also been deployed by the ministry to ensure that new recruits get suitable opportunities commensurate to their skills upon the completion of their on-the-job training, he added.

Al Bakri also highlighted the ministry’s achievements in implementing the directives of Oman’s ruler, Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed, on securing employment for Omani job-seekers.
