A public relations firm has reported that there are upwards of 15 million Facebook subscribers in the Middle East and North Africa and that they outnumber the newspapers currently in circulation in the region.
Spot On Public Relations also identified Saudi Arabia and Dubai as being key markets for the site which can be regarded as a major source of information for an increasing number of people.
GCC countries have a total of 5 million people using Facebook and growth in the phenomenon is continuing, with the introduction of the Arabic language last year encouraging an estimated 3.5 million new users to join.
Interestingly, female Facebook users are in the minority in the MENA region, with 63% of users being male. International figures, including the UK and US, show that women are more inclined than men to log on and check their profiles.Sarah O'Connell, Staff Writer, Gulf Jobs Market
