Dubai World Cup Hosts the Richest Race in Horseracing History

Dubai : 28 March 2010

Anyone who is anybody in the horseracing world knows that yesterday was the highlight of many in a racing calendar. The Dubai World Cup was set to start yesterday and this year is extra special as not only is it the first time that the Dubai World Cup was run on Tapeta but it was also the richest race in history with a groundbreaking $10 million to be won.

This exciting social event began with the official opening of Meydan which is the world’s largest integrated racing facility. The official launch was at noon and the first race started at 4.45pm.

There was a spectacular display of performances throughout the day including fire performers, dancing troupes, stilt walkers and a wide selection of music including jazz, Arabic fusion, break-dancers, magicians, and belly dancers to name just a few.

This culminated with the grand opening itself which was a multi-sensory display using the theme of, ‘The Vision of Meydan.’ There was a screen which was over 6,700 square metres and this projected countless memorable images of the last 14 Dubai World Cups. There was also spectacular fireworks display by the world renowned company Gruccis.

The Dubai World Cup race itself was an exciting grand finale with 14 top thoroughbreds vying for the $10 million dollar prize. As if this wasn’t enough excitement for one day this was then followed by a concert of greats including Sir Elton John and Carlos Santana.
