Abu Dhabi Aims for More Tourists

Abu Dhabi, UAE : 03 May 2010

Abu Dhabi has announced that it intends to increase the number of tourists entering the Emirate by ten percent as it continues to position itself against Dubai as a cultural and tourist centre for the region.

The news came this Monday when the chair of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, detailed plans for the increase.  Abu Dhabi currently has around 17,600 hotel rooms available for visitors but with planned increases the region would have almost an 80,000 room capacity.

In March this year reports from STR Global found that Abu Dhabi’s hotel sector had suffered a 45% decrease in revenues per room available, as the Emirate suffered along with the rest of the region as a result of the global crash.
